iseemobility - A New Platform for
Delivering Rich Media Content
iseemobility 5M empowers content providers and
enterprises to deliver high-value, rich media mobile
content and content centric applications to their
consumer and enterprise customers.
iseemobility 5M is a standard based platform providing
an environment to build secure and manageable mobile
applications. Developers can leverage features and
functions directly and in any combination. They can use
their existing development tools to create feature rich,
in-demand applications more quickly and cost
effectively. They can design and build applications that
push document and rich media content to devices, pull
content from central repositories or use MMS, SMS,
email, WAP push or custom clients to deliver content to
the mobile phone.

Transcoding Platform
iseemobility 5M can be implemented as a standalone
transcoding platform. Adhering to standards mandated by
the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) and other standards
governing bodies, iseemobility 5M provides a single
centralized transcoder platform for content delivery by
MMSCs; Download Portals or Service Delivery Platforms.
The iseemobility 5M platform enhances the OMA-STI
specification by handling rich documents (Microsoft
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, HTML, etc.). This enables
a new dimension of information, entertainment and
enterprise content delivery providing the delivery of
rich content such as wireless newspapers, magazines,
books, blogs, corporate documents, press releases, as
well as marketing materials and advertisements.
Content Adaptation
iseemedia's solution has been designed to provide fast
content adaptation for the widest variety of mobile
devices with little or no user intervention. The request
to view an attachment in an email, or the upload of a
document to the iseemedia server triggers the automated
process. The publisher does not need to concern
themselves with the characteristics of the target
device.
Bandwidth Efficiency
iseemedia's document and rich content streaming and
delivery server significantly reduces bandwidth
utilization by reducing large file sizes while
transcoding and by streaming content to provide
interactive access with additional detail. When
streaming a large document, a small index file is
initially delivered. This file provides a roadmap of the
document and an interface for the navigation of the
document. For instance, if a ten page document is sent
by email, the mobile device will receive the email with
a 5-10kbit attachment. This attachment will include
document navigation information as well as thumbnails of
the pages. If what you are looking for happens to be on
page five, for example, you can request that page only.
In the case of documents with embedded images and other
rich content, thumbnails replace the content within the
document. Rich content can then be accessed from within
the document, or through the table. If images or other
rich content requires greater viewing detail, regions of
interest can be selected for higher resolution viewing.
This approach provides the user with access to details
within any part of the image, but does not require the
download of the entire image to the device.
Images and slide shows are stored on the server in a
high quality tiled format. When the mobile device
requests the image, the server uses the device's profile
to dynamically size, compress and adjust the number of
colors to optimize the amount of data required to
deliver the image.
File Size
The iseemedia adaptation engine's format provides
significant reduction in the file size of text based and
rich documents. In addition to the size reduction of the
document itself, the streaming of the content alleviates
the need to download large files to the mobile device.
The implication of this approach, for all intents and
purposes, alleviates any document, image or file size
limitation.
Security (HTTP, SSL, DRM, PKI)
Security is implemented on a number of different levels
related to the transport, content and the encryption of
messages if required. In addition to the traditional
security approaches, iseemobility can maintain all
content on the server, providing view access only. Many
people have misplaced their phones or had them stolen.
By storing the content behind the firewall and opening a
door to access the content from a mobile device,
iseemedia's technology makes the content much more
secure. By simply removing access privileges, an
administrator can secure the content, whether it be
email attachments or corporate documents.
Content Management (Content Lifecycle
Management)
The delivery of documents and other rich content to
mobile devices poses a number of key challenges to the
content aggregator, publisher and the enterprise where
the management of content is important. The adaptation
of content to conform to a wide variety of mobile
devices requires the creation of multiple versions of
the same content, storage of the multiple versions, and
the maintenance of the relationships between the various
versions. iseemobility's combination of adaptation to a
single master format and dynamic device specific
rendering removes the need for multiple versions and the
need for the maintenance of a complex set of
relationships. In a corporate environment where
documents are dynamic and changing, the iseemedia
approach can save hundreds of hours in document
management and repurposing, and makes the availability
of outdated documents almost impossible. Once the master
document has been changed, all dynamically rendered
versions are also up-to-date. For content aggregators
and publishers, the storage of single source content
such as documents and images makes it quick and easy to
add, remove and archive content. The iseemobility
platform uses WebDAV as the mechanism to interface to
third party content creation and management systems.
iseemobility includes a content lifecycle management
system, making the addition, editing and deletion of
content into the system available through an
administrative console.
Universal Client
Most document and rich media content solutions require
proprietary viewers or applications. For example, you
may have to install Microsoft Word, Excel, etc. as well
as mobile PDF reader, an image viewer, etc. This is not
only cumbersome, but takes up valuable memory on a
mobile device. By pre-adapting all content to a single
format, iseemedia requires one client application which
can render and navigate all content on the mobile
device.
Content Viewing and Navigation
One of the major barriers to content viewing on mobile
devices is screen size and local memory. iseemedia's
content rendering client uses an extensive set of
commands to make document viewing faster and easier.
Random access to pages, images in large documents,
zooming text, graphs and charts, and intelligent
formatting of tables (i.e. Microsoft Excel). Original
views can be accessed if the content needs to be viewed
on context of other parts of the document.
